For you parents, if your child had decided to change their name or go by another name would this have hurt your feelings at all? I know most parents carefully select a fitting name or sometimes a sentimental name for their child. Would it bother you?
I would not want them to change it to a symble or some religious name. When my son was 6 he wanted his name changed to dick. I assume it was said at school and not so nice of terms.
