I just read on another exJW site that the WTBTS claims to be the vine spoken of in John 15. Do they really teach that? I don't remember hearing that before.

Try a general search eng. look up with the keywords.I recall something about the 'vine' and branches 20-30 years ago. What matters to me is that the fruitage of the Watchtower vine is rotten to the core

    No they do not.

The society teaches Jesus is the vine. The branches were the jews alone, until the New Covenant was installed in which the Gentiles were "grafted" in, when Peter had the vision from Jehovah showing how it was now "spiritual Israel" rather than a fleshly one in which the gentiles could now be a part of. All who make up the 'branches' are of the annointed class.

    Gumby:
It's difficult to read that passage any other way, isn't it?
The only difference between the JW's and Christendom is that Christendom accepts that all it's members are of [what the JW's would call] the anointed [class].

One flock (Jews / Gentiles), one shepherd (Jesus / God (Jehovah, if you prefer)).

Well said Gumby, I bet your average Joe Elder could not have put it more succintly. I just thought I would put up a quote from the 'Greatest Man Book' to tie up the point

gt chap. 116 Preparing the Apostles for His Departure ***

So Jesus urges: "Get up, let us go from here." However, before they leave, Jesus, moved by his love for them, continues speaking, providing a motivating illustration.

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the cultivator," he begins. The Great Cultivator, Jehovah God, planted this symbolic vine when he anointed Jesus with holy spirit at his baptism in the fall of 29 C.E. But Jesus goes on to show that the vine symbolizes more than just him, observing: "Every branch in me not bearing fruit he takes away, and every one bearing fruit he cleans, that it may bear more fruit. . . . Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it remains in the vine, in the same way neither can you, unless you remain in union with me. I am the vine, you are the branches."

At Pentecost, 51 days later, the apostles and others become branches of the vine when holy spirit is poured out on them. Eventually, 144,000 persons become branches of the figurative grapevine. Along with the vine stem, Jesus Christ, these make up a symbolic vine that produces the fruits of God?s Kingdom.

Of that does not include the "Other sheep", perhaps they do not count
