eh hoobie...all drivel! People have been trying to explain nature and its events since the dawn of man. Trying to discredit the work of Charles Darwin on that basis is ludicrous. It is also comparing apples to oranges. You can't just glop all the world's superstition and belief in the supernatural to prove creationism and discount evolution. Besides that world mythologies are so different if anything they tend to discredit the concept of one "universal" creator entirely IMO. Such ideas also show the ongoing egoism of the creationists. As if somehow the earth and its evolution was the focus, and still is, of a creator. All the while the universe expands like our knowledge of the surrounding planets and even farther into space..I will be long dead before we find life on other planets I would imagine, but that day I would like to see. It would blow the creation theory out of the water. After all, you can't have an egoistic creation theory and have life evolving on other planets now can we? Or do those creatures on other planets have some special verion of the Bible too?
Sincerely,
District Overbeer

From the article linked: Evolution?s acceptance has much more to do with the use of the tools of science by multi-thousands of dedicated researchers, using the billions of dollars provided by governments to build a case for an ancient theory intended to support the atheism that now dominates both science and our increasingly secular society. This fact is important because the claim that Darwinism is a modern scientific idea is used as a major argument for its validity.
It is really scarey to hear that people truly believe that it is a FACT that the world's governments and scientists are part of a gigantic conspiracy to push atheism. I do like the first part of the above quote, which acknowlwedges that 'multi-thousands of dedicated researchers are using the tools of science' and arriving at the inescapable conclusion that life evolves. Even this deceptively claims however that these researchers are spending 'billions of dollars' to prove evolution when in reality evolution is not in question outside the Fundementalist bubble. No money is being spent to 'build a case for evolution'.

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone argue that Darwin invented the idea of naturalistic evolution. It's widely known that Lamark had an incorrect theory of evolution well before Darwin and even the ancient Greek philosophers had their own naturalistic ideas. Darwin just came up with the modern, mostly correct theory of how it happened - Natural Selection. Yes, the idea was proposed and hinted at by others before Darwin, but nobody else did the exhaustive research and argumentation to move the idea from common sense hypothesis to rigorous scientific theory like Darwin did.

Haha, I just noticed that the article Hooberus posted was written by Jerry Bergman, who has posted on this site before. I think it's safe to say that on the topic of Evolution, Jerry is well out of his depth.

Well so what if it is an ancient idea???? Does that mean evolution couldn't have hppened????
They knew how to make fire perhaps 200,000 years ago,,maybe it's time to give up making fires because,,this was an ancient idea,,which by way of association could mean it was incorrect,,because of it's ancientness.

I think it is not strange that ancients had some ideas of evolution generating life forms.
Because when you think of it evolution is alway happening we can see it,,when we plant a seed in the ground,,we see it when a baby grows in to an adult,,we see it in the seasons,,etc.....Why should we be surprised that ancient though of it,, it is every where.

Hooberus: for gods' sake, look at another web site once in a while!
[Edited to add: I just looked at the particular link and it's a paper by our old friend Jerry Bergman. Hehe, thanks for the laugh, hoob!]
