US & UK anti-democracy acts

    Ok, I know it's rather fashionable to go US bashing at the moment, and oftentimes with sound reason. But all countries have their darker side. Here in the UK a worrying development is the keeping of suspects without trial, without prospect of release in Belmarsh prison. Whilst we are justified in demanding that the US desists in detention without trial at Guantanamo and other secret "gulags" we need to be conscious that our own supposedly democratic govt. has undermined civil liberty here as much as the US administration has.

    Democracy is not well served by this. Shame on both our nations.

    yes, it's totally SHAMEFUL and we are the worst country in Europe doing this (singled out for specific criticism by amnesty international).

    What exactly is this war that we're supposed to be fighting trying to defend? Out law abiding and free democracy with it's justice system? It makes me puke.
