Call for Papers. Understanding Manipulative Influence, Cults, New Religious Movements, and Other Groups

AFF (American Family Foundation) seeks paper and panel proposals related to the above topic for upcoming conferences:

    July 14-16, 2005 (Madrid, Spain)

October 2005 (date to be determined - Cleveland, Ohio)

Summer 2006 (date to be determined - Denver, Colorado).

Attendees and speakers at AFF conferences are diverse, including academicians, helping professionals, former group members, current group members, families, clergy, educators, and others.

Proposals for the Madrid conference may be sent in English, Spanish, or French. Cleveland and Denver proposals must be in English.

Individual presenters will have up to 45-minutes for paper delivery and discussion. Panel organizers have 90 minutes; it is recommended that no more than four people speak on a panel.

Papers and panel proposals will be considered in all areas of cultic studies. Religious fanaticism, particularly as it may manifest in terrorism, is of special interest for the Madrid conference. If you are not familiar with AFF conferences, we suggest that you go here for lists of topics and presenters from current and previous conferences. (http://www.cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/idx_affevents.htm ). AFF is not able to offer financial assistance to speakers, although we do give speakers a substantial discount in the registration fee.

Panel organizers : send panel title, plus participants' names, e-mail addresses, affiliations, paper titles, audiovisual needs (if known), and an abstract of 300-1000 words for each paper. Specify which conference(s) you prefer to attend.

Individual presenters : send name, e-mail address, affiliation, paper title, audiovisual needs (if known), and an abstract of 300-1000 words. Specify which conference(s) you prefer to attend.

Proposals not accepted as presentations will be considered for poster sessions, if the conference includes poster sessions.

    Deadlines:

    Madrid - September 15, 2004

    Cleveland - October 15, 2004

    Denver - September 15, 2005.

Send to AFF's Executive Director, Dr. Michael Langone, at the address or e-mail below.
