Well, the annual European war is over for another year

Yes, every year we do battle ... with song !

While it's supposed to be 'the best song' that wins it has degenerated into farce a bit - for as long as anyone can rememeber:

Greece and Cyprus give each other top marks
Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark share points
    Span and portugal pally up
The new baltic countries and neighbours help each other out
Monoco always pays it's dues to France

    and so on ...

As always, Terry Wogan's commentary is hilarious and makes the whole thing worth watching.

Last year, our entry was abysmal (out of tune). This year we were pretty good but it seems we were maybe snubbed a bit because of politics - the countries we normally share points with didn't do the business ... perhaps because Britains support for the war in Iraq put them so at odd with the rest of Europe? It was debated last year whether this would happen but in the end the song was so bad it was hard to tell. Traditionally, we've always done quite well.

    It's been a while!

While being thrilled at the leather, fur and whips from Ukraine I was most disappointed with Albania's entry. The preview video

shows the most hilarious dancing I've seen at eurovison, involving what I can only describe as a pony trot across the stage. It was sadly changed for the final.

The French stilt dancer was erm... a curiousity.
