"As soon as they are saying 'Peace and Security', sudden destruction.......

I was having a moment today when I was trying to compare how loving the JW's God (and Father) is compared to me, also a father.

I'm not sure how much they still preach the "Peace and Security" cry and that sudden destruction is to be upon the world immediately after that.....????...... but when I was a child I thought that was the meanest and also cowardly thing that God could do. Comparing it to me as a father.... .

My two boys are 9 and 6 and I love them to bits but they can really argue when they are in certain moods. What if I told them how I thought they should learn how to get along but they went about it another way than my advice? They devised their own plan to get along, but at least there was "peace" between them. Is that when I should send them to their room or ground them or hit them? Wouldn't I be an arrogant prick and a pretty pathetic father if I told them that they had to do it my way and since they didn't, (even though the end result was EXACTLY what I wanted) that they were now going to be severely punished?

Yet that is basically what the JW's are saying about their Jehovah. Is it possible that they have realized thhe stupidity of that sort of "logic" and have gotten away from that saying? (Honest question, since I haven't been to a meeting in 10 years and have heard very little about that past prediction that they stuck to so strongly for years.

I think the jest of the above quoted scripture is that there won't actually be peace and security........they'll just say there is and them BAM!! Jehovah's gonna kick it up a notch and blow them all away!!

Who is 'they' that will be mouthing off this 'peace & security' then 'sudden destruction?' Christendom or Communism?

What a good point you make, outbutnotdown! I'm a parent too, and I agree with something Bill Cosby once said: "Parents do not want justice. They want QUIET." All kidding aside, though, I am proud when our two work out their differences together and I wouldn't dream of complaining or punishing because they didn't do it my way.

I believe that God created us with a functioning brain because he expected us to use it. I believe he gave us the parameters of good behavior and common sense, and is letting us work things out for ourselves.

Good point, outbutnotdown, but I think the JWs misinterpret the scripture from which they derive that idea. A careful look at the Greek, and at many other translations, indicates that it doesn't mean "as soon as they're crying peace and security destruction instantly comes on them," but "while they're saying 'we have peace and security' destruction comes unexpectedly on them." The latter meaning is just another way of saying the same thing that Matt. 24:36-44 says.

Severely punished? How about a bloodbath? God is not only going to kill everyone who doesn't follow orders well, he is going to kill 99% of people who aren't JW's according to their own statements. He's going to do this to billions of people regardless how good these people are and their children and babies.

Actually.....their god is no different than the Christian god ....sorry to say. He's going to kill everyone who does'nt confess Jesus as their savior.....so either way, your ass is grass if you don't believe.
