I received this email a while ago and thought that I ought to post it on here in case anyone wished to attend.

From: Lois Kendall: Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College

    Dear Mark

A while ago we were communicating about some research taking place at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. I am now coming to completion of my research, which I hope will be finished towards the end of the year.

A full copy of my thesis should then be available in the library of Buckinghamshire Chilterns University college in High Wycombe and in the British Library in London.

I am also writing to you to let you know about a forthcoming workshop. This is a one-day workshop for those who have spent all or part of their childhood in an extremist authoritarian sect (sometimes known as cults, sects, new religions or new religious movements). This workshop will take place on 8th of May in High Wycombe.

It will aim to cover a number of topics including:

    • Dependency issues
    • Individual differences and resilience
    • The grieving process
    • Distortion of self; identity
    • Boundaries
    • Abuses of logic
    • Decision making
    • Social interaction
    • The transition into another culture
    • Post-group re-evaluation

I am pasting below this e-mail details regarding the workshop, which I am also including as an attachment. I'd be grateful if you passed this onto others.

If you have any questions or queries either about my research or about the workshop then please feel free to get in touch.

    Thank you, take care,

    Lois

    • Did you grow up in a strict religion?
    • Did you spend all or part of your childhood in a cult?
    • Did you spend all or part of your childhood in an extremist authoritarian sect?
    • Did you spend all or part of your childhood in a new religion?

If you think that you might answer yes to any of the above questions then you may be interested in attending a workshop specifically designed for born/raised former members of extremist authoritaurian sects, which are sometimes known as cults, sects, new religious movements or new religions. Alternatively your group may have been a non-religious group; perhaps it was a therapeutic, or political group.

The DialogCentre UK http://www.dialogcentre.org.uk/ in cooperation with Buckinghamshire Chilterns University college are running a one-day workshop on Saturday the 8th of May 2004. The workshop aims to help individuals deal with some of the difficulties that they might encounter after leaving such groups.

If you would like to find out more information about this workshop then do get in touch with Lois Kendall by post, e-mail or telephone and providing a name and postal address or telephone number where you can be contacted. This will be kept entirely confidential.

From Mark at Community Action Network http://www.can-online.org.uk, you can e-mail me too at [email protected]

If anyone needs a lift, I will be driving up from West Cornwall and can pick up anyone south of Birmingham, including London, though you will have to of course chip in towards fuel / travel expenses. I currently have four places available in my deisel saloon. I can of course drive you home again afterwards, but would also like to see my son for 2 hours at the end of the day, who also lives in High Wycombe.

    Kindest regards

    Mark Price

I received exactly the same letter last year. Is the research still going on?
