These days you need to protect your PC. I was just informed the site disfellowshipped.com had become a porn site. Well, that's not actually true - since you are derirected to a pornsite from there.

However - this site tries to install 3 or 4 dialers on your PC (!!) - and so do a lot of other sites online. Not only tracking coockies and that kind of stuff - but real nasty maleware as well.

My tip to anyone is this: Go to this address: http://www.safer-networking.org/

Download SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY - install it, use the update function, and when that's done - use the IMMUNIZE function. In that window you can do two things. Imminize, and then block a few things. Do both - and run this prog once a week or so.

I can promise you, it works real good - and it stops a whole lot of shit.

Besides that - it's absolutely FREE!

    Thanks Kent

It was posting on this forum that informed me that I had spyware on my computer! Every time I would post, a message would appear in the backround (Posters' Computer Probably has spyware) I went to www.webroot.com and used a program called Spy Sweeper to remove the spyware and to protect my system. I'm happy to report SO FAR SO GOOD!

    Stupid questions:

    What is a dialer?
    What is maleware?

I've got Spybot at home and I usually run it once or twice a month. I think I'll check out the immunize function as well. Ad-aware is great as well.

Yeah, Kent, I have that software. It works good. I had tried SpyHunter and it only deletes malware and viruses if you purchase the full version.

SpyBot is free and works great.

A Dialler is a program that typically dials a premium rate phone number leaving you with a very hefty phone bill, they don't affect broadband users but can still dial up if you have an old 56k modem in your p.c,so if you don't need your dial up disable it !!

SpywareBlaster is especially good against diallers and it's free aswell-http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

I had that too... and even spybot wouldn't take care of it.. I think I got it from that Smiley bar I had last fall.. I had to have someone manually go in and clean up my system..

now I run adaware and spybot regularly to keep it clean.
