3 quotes about masterbation, blood and birthdays:

True, the words "masturbation" and "self-abuse" are not in the Bible. The Mosaic law speaks of "emission of semen," but as Bible commentators point out, the reference is to involuntary nocturnal emissions, not self-induced ejaculations. (Lev. 15:16) However, there are Bible principles that adequately cover the subject of masturbation.
Would the Biblical prohibition on blood cover medical uses, such as transfusions, which certainly were not known in the days of Noah, Moses, or the apostles? ... thinking people in past centuries realized that the Biblical law applied to taking blood into the veins just as it did to taking it into the mouth. Bartholin concluded: "Either manner of taking [blood] accords with one and the same purpose, that by this blood a sick body be nourished or restored."

Birthdays: The only two birthday celebrations spoken of in the Bible were held by persons who did not worship Jehovah. (Genesis 40:20-22; Mark 6:21, 22, 24-27) The early Christians did not celebrate birthdays. The custom of celebrating birthdays comes from ancient false religions. True Christians give gifts and have good times together at other times during the year

Our view of others is very limited compared to Jehovah?s, who reads the heart. (1 Chronicles 28:9) Appreciating this will prevent us from becoming modern-day, self-righteous Pharisees, trying to press people into our own man-made mold of righteousness in order that they might fit our concept of what is correct. If we try to see people as God sees them, we will not require more of them than he does. We will "not go beyond the things that are written." (1 Corinthians 4:6) This is especially important for Christian elders to take to heart.?1 Peter 5:2, 3

(Lev. 15:16) However, there are Bible principles that adequately cover the subject of masturbation.

They speak about involuntary emissions being spoken of in the Bible, and give a scripture. Then they jump and say "there are Bible principles" that cover masturbation. Bot give none, nor any scripture that does.

Would the Biblical prohibition on blood cover medical uses, such as transfusions, which certainly were not known in the days of Noah, Moses, or the apostles? ... thinking people in past centuries realized that the Biblical law applied to taking blood into the veins just as it did to taking it into the mouth. Which thinking people through the centuries? Bartholin's quote (18th century??) has now been shown to be false, blood given intravenously does not nourish the body.

What about Jesus' birthday? What eveidence is given that the early Christians didn't celebrate birthdays. So if we give a gift to a person the next day after their birthday its OK.

Trying to press people into a man-made mould is exactly what the above quotes are doing. Making people fit a concept of what the WT say is correct. In the above on masturbation, blood, birthdays, have they not gone "beyond the things written".

"Trying to press people into a man-made mould" is exactly the business they are in.

Of course, they claim it is Jahoobee's mould, but the fact it keeps changing everytime the GB farts, proves it is their own very human interpretation that rules the day.

Just another of the contradictory, mutually exclusive beliefs JWs have.

Yeah. Watchtower leaders are obsessed with sex. They wouldn't be if they would try it once and a while and quit talking about it so much.

Gordy, you put an explanation which is entirely correct, do you know what? This quote...

To not "go beyond the things that are written".

appears so few times in the Watchtower library you can count it on one hand. Yet that is the same scripture quoted live on Panorama BBC as to why two witnesses are required to disfellowship a pedophile.

If this thought was honest, how did they come up with shunning and required preaching?

Early Christians did celebrate birthdays as seen in Job 1:4. But many JW celebrate wedding anniversaries ... and wedding anniversary is also pagan.

Job 1:4 [KJV] And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
Job 3:1-3 [KJV] After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day. And Job spake, and said, Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
Rom 14:5 [KJV] One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

So, as the precedent is set, it is ok to smoke cigarettes?

After all, god gave Adam All the plants of the earth for his use, and, according to the precedent, taking the tobacco plant in as smoke, is just ?feeding? off the plant.

Same with cannabis I suppose, another plant.
