I drove by them gassing the chickens one day whilst on the Trans-Canada Highway. They say that it might be spread by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency inspectors carrying the avian influenza.

19 million B.C. birds to be made away with
Federal Government said it has approved its proposal to kill the chickens and turkey throughout the Fraser Valley in efforts to wipe out contagious avian flu.
This is going to be devastating to the poultry industry in those areas. Many related to the industry will be laid off.
First it's bad beef , now it's bad chickens.

p.s the B.C. poultry industry says it generates more than 1 billion a year for the provincial economy and employs more than 5,000 people.

First it's beef, now poultry. Guess I'll have to go with pork for now or become a vegan.
P.S. I've driven past some of those poultry "farms" in the summer, and if the wind is blowing the wrong way .......
