Without seeing the small print, I wonder how this will affect the UK branch, and individual KH's.

If they all go vat registered they will be able to relaim all vat on purchases, without having to pay vat on income, which is a huge windfall in the purses of the UK, JW charities. No doubt they will take quick adavantage of this.

The above is just my initial reaction to the news

Just Waiting on the details to be printed, and put on the UK budget website.

The situation 'downunder' is that GST (our equivalent of VAT) may be claimed on purchases, but offset against GST on income. Collections and donations are tax exempt, so the WTS is already enjoying their "windfall" status here!

    Cheers, Ozzie

The Society will not be able to benefit from this new V.A.T concession. It is for churches and 'sacred places' having historical significance. Until March 2006 they will be able to reclaim the 17.5% V.AT they pay on repairs.
However, because it applies only to buildings with 'historical significance', the concession will not apply to most modern places of worship like Kingdom Halls.

Bet it won't stop the Watchtower from trying though.
