My non-poster friend has requested that I post the following

    WHAT MAKES THEM TICK?
I think JWs favorite scripture and story is the one about Abraham preparing to kill his son, Isaac. For righteousness' sake and for God. 'What a holy man'.

That scripture and story, when cleverly used, break the parent-child bond, this deepest and most spiritual love and connection to life and to God, our very existence and our future.

They are clever beyond belief, but they use this story to entice JWs to believe the blood transfusion bunk. The revered word of a bunch of elderly men in Brooklyn, whose names they don't even know. They then believe, with all their hearts, that God WANTS them to sit back and watch their children die, rather than to save their life, even when that power to save that life is at their very finger tips.

They hold this belief for themselves and they hold it for everyone they know, as well.

I believe the second most favorite scripture and story of JWs is the one where Lot gave his daughters to the angels to have sex with. Or gave them to a group of visiting strangers for their sexual pleasure. I don't recall the details exactly, but it was along those lines. He gave away his daughters for sexual pleasure, just as casually as if he were offering a tired neighbor a cup of coffee or a papercup half-filled with punch from a backyard BQ.

And the daughters, like Isaac, coopertated fully, probably esteemed to play a role in this Godly act.

The second scripture they never talk about. Tho I wonder what they might say if you asked them outright (or in public) what exactly was the JW point of view on this story.

But once you sell them on these two, there is NO LIMIT to what you can get them to do.

    Lee,

    I agree with your logic.

I fail to see what ancient middle eastern religion has to teach us in regards to modern western practice.

    It is outdated,and outlandish.

We need a better way of living.

It seems to me that the residue of ancient thinking leaves open interpretation and excuse to all manner of abuses.

God did the same thing to his own son, you know. And unlike Abraham, he actually followed through with it. Bible-Based religion has a solution for every human problem: murder.

Your friend was right on IMO

So much of the problems we suffer in regards to religious abuse is at the root caused by the old testament, and it's interpretation.

These were for practical purposes, ignorant people who were in awe of nature (the moon, stars, sun, and planets)

They were very observant and wise for their times, but many fail to understand or accept continued knowledge.

At any rate, the same old story of a man participating in his own childs death continues to be believed as gods will forever, and knowledge of sacrificial religions remains unexplored....

Similar human sacrifice is known and documentated in South America, and what happens with such knowledge? The Mormans.....LOL..

So anyways, a natural progression southward in understanding history and thought.

Thanks for bringing up an interesting aspect of modern theology. I should have put modern in quotes LOL

As a side note...my step sister's grandparents started a church years ago, they were pentecostal types.

They forced a child of four to lay on the alter while they enacted this bloody scene including holding the knife over him, and only stopping at the last minute (at gods say so)..

The little boy was screaming and traumatised and the congregation applauded...

    sick stuff....

OMG lw Yes that child will probably be in counseling or should be

Well I guess considering their shunning policy we should be grateful they don't stone us

    Lee, you know me..

Throw a stone at me and I will pelt their asses back!

    LOL

I took my son, his wife, hubby, and my other three kids to chinese dinner the other night.

My oldest (the married one) got cute and used his straw to get me in the face with a spit-wad

I (purely reactionary) Threw a loaded egg role and caught him square in the face, stood up, and shouted, "mess with me again and I will throw a whole turkey in your lap".

    LOL

Yea I think our kids get some of the over-reactions - I know mine did. I sometimes wish I had gotten therapy before I had them but they are precious and I love them and am glad they are here. Glad too I got help when I did or I think I would have messed them up pretty badly

yes, twas a definate over reaction.

They see it with humor tho. I was always more concerned with openess and honesty, so they laugh and over look me.

    (A precious gift)

On a better note, they are informed and safer than I was. So I did something right.

It never ceases to amaze me however how abusers will self-justify themselves, no matter how careful we are.

They are just houdini's at fraud and illusion.

They pretend there is some purpose and death defying reason behind the abuse.

"god ordained abuse" is what I call the phenomenon.
