JWs are ruled by a Governing Body. Mormons have the Quorum of Twelve.

JWs have an annual meeting. So do Mormons.

JWs have revised their Bible recently. The Mormons did the same.

JWs have a slick website. So do the Mormons.

JWs go door-to-door. Mormons practice the same.

JWs now have Family Study Night. Mormons have the same.

In many cases, Mormons beat JWs to the punch.

BTW…Guy Pierce, the last GB member who has deceased, was raised a Mormon if I remember correctly.

As a JW, I remember calling at a door and getting invited in. But the person who invited me in was actually the next door neighbor. The older gentleman who lived there was a Mormon. The next door neighbor was giddy at getting the two of us together. He clearly expected fireworks and a huge debate and wanted entertainment, but we’d a friendly conversation. The neighbor got bored and left disappointed…but not before telling us not to call next door.

    Welcome to the forum!

Welcome!! If you haven't looked over the Pew Religious Survey you can get comparison's on Mormons and JW's, divorce rate, higher education percentage, income etc. It will round the picture out a bit.

I did a three year bit as a pioneer in an area where there was a need. back in the 1960's. Without the internet we just didn't have the background information about the beginning of our religion and it's history. Now for both groups it's all out there and easy to realize that all of us were in a cult.

Both the Watchtower and the LDS teach that the true Christian faith basically went out of existence for 18 centuries until their modern day founders came along to restore it. CT Russell for the JWs. Joseph Smith for the LDS.

Both groups ignore the false prophecies promulgated by their leaders and consider it persecution to bring it up.

Both religions have current authority figures that can't be questioned by members-- the LDS prophet and the "faithful and discreet slave" (Governing Body of the WT).

One difference is that the WT comes up with specious arguments to refute people who disagree with them, whereas when Mormons get backed into a corner, they simply ignore the contradictions and bear their testimonies and rely on their feelings.
