What makes people kill others over religion? The same thing that makes JW's let children die over blood doctrine.

My inactive relative, (female) asked in exasperation, "What makes people kill others over religion?" I responded, "The same thing that makes JW's let children die over the blood doctrine." Isn't it the same? Religious ignorance and fervor causing the death of others without any compunction? Have you seen this warped thinking in action? Its quite deadly and unreachable by reason or common sense. To me its the same, Islamic jihad and declining a blood transfusion to your child or spouse. Your thoughts?

If you are convinced that God is on your side, or is commanding you, or is blessing you, or will bless you, there is virtually no limit to the depraved horrific deeds that one can accomplish.

    Exactly.

Letting your kid die because you think god has forbidden blood transfusions is murder/suicide. Jehovah's Witnesses practice human sacrifice whenever they do this to themselves or to their own children. The Jewish God of War is a bloodthirsty deity and the Bible makes no secret of the fact that he does accept human sacrifice. They do it with the same strong faith that these Jihadis have whenever they kill other people or blow themselves up. These people think they are the good guys because their doctrine has them convince that they have divine permission to commit these atrocities.

If you want a normal person to commit hideous atrocities, all it will take is a nice fat dose of religion. When people begin believing that they are permitted certain things because they have divine backing, logic goes right out the window.

Virtually every horrible thing people have done "over religion" can, IMO, be traced back to a single thing...

    ...the fear of eternal damnation/destruction.

In all of these situations there is a claim of authority. Once you accept that claim, they have you and they know it. To disagree with them is to disagree with God.

"What makes people kill others over religion?"

While JWs aren't the sort to grab weapons and start killing innocent people, it's what they have been trained to pray for and fantasize about.

    Q) Why do JWs pray that billions of people be killed for not belonging to their WT Corp religion?

    A) They've been promised to each get a pet panda. So it's the damn pandas' fault!
