David Lynch in perspective

I now own the following David Lynch films ...

    Eraserhead (1977)

    The Elephant Man (1980)

    Dune (1984)

    Blue Velvet (1986)

    Wild At Heart (1990)

Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me (1992)

    The Straight Story (1999)

    Mulholland Drive (2001)

    Inland Empire (2006)

The only film I don't own (and haven't seen) is Lost Highway (1997).

I also own all the Twin Peaks TV series.

One thing I've noticed is that Lynch is praised so much - trendy Film reviewers sometimes fall over themselves to ladle treacle on Lynch and his film-making ability. I quite understand why some people don't like Lynch's body of work. There are often bizarre and baffling sequences in his work. Personally, I kinda like him - I like most films that are a bit weird or different. And Lynch's stuff is certainly that, lol.

I kinda view Lynch as a talented but very left-field guy who makes stuff that is not to everyone's taste. At least he stays true to himself and his artistic vision. This is better than being a hack like JJ Abrams who makes films for Disney.

The only Lynch film I dislike outright is Dune.

I tried to buy Lost Highway a few weeks ago from Amazon but it wasn't available in the UK ...
