The Simpsons team - because of criticism over white actor Hank Azaria's voiceover of Indian-American character Apu - is terminating the caricature. People claimed that it "reinforced racial stereotypes."

Does Krusty the Clown now denigrate real-life clowns,Chief Clancy Wiggum demean police bosses, and groundskeeper Willie "reinforce the racial stereotype" of Scotsmen with red hair & beard?

Get a sense of humour, why don't you!!! They are only carictures, for goodness sake.

A bald dimwit, smart wife, smart daughter, goofball son, spoiled baby, super Christian, thug, on and on. We find real life examples right here in my neighborhood. All I have to do is go next door, down the street, 7-11, Walmart and they are all there.

Are they deleting the actual character? Or is the actor who voices them no longer going to do the voice ( presumably to be replaced by someone of the same ethnicity )?

Either way - it is getting really silly now. I have a friend who is a policeman in London and him & his colleagues are really afraid now of arresting anyone who is black. They were called out this week to a group of black youths "tagging" a train ( ie vandalising it ) but just decided not to bother and left them alone to get on with it. It is becoming a nightmare.

The article says they faced this action a while ago... moreso because they have a white actor doing the voice instead of an Indian actor. There is a good chance they will keep the character and just give it a new voice.

It does promote a racial stereotype. I thought that is part of what social satyr does.

If you feel threatened because an actor and a production company decided to cater to their public.... if you think that will lead to loss of liberties and freedom of speech, you might be missing the point that it is a reactionary to the public who spoke out. That is exactly how freedom of speech works.

Anyone still watching the Simpsons after 32 years and still cares who voices Apu is bordering on obsession. I can proudly say that in 32 years I've not seen one full episode. What's with you guys, don't you read the Awake or something?

I recently read that they are wanting to change the name of John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California because of a 1971 interview with Playboy. (I only read Playboy for the Articles)

John Wayne is quoted as saying, “With a lot of Blacks, there’s quite a bit of resentment, along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so,” he said. “But we can’t all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the Blacks.
