Wait for the animation to load.

This is driving me crazy! How can the area of each shape be different when they are made of equally sized shapes?

I never was any good at maths!

The pieces that are sliced by the diagonal lines in different directions, are not exactly the same size. They are very, very, close, but a little bit smaller. Your eye can't detect the variances in a drawing of this scale when the pieces are reassembled with slight overlaps.

The newly assembled rectangle doesn't actually fit perfectly. But it fits close enough to look perfect on a small scale.

AHA! That's a Chinese math puzzle! And if you actually do this yourself with a grid paper yu'll see that they aren't exactly equal.
