Victims of "political repression"
I find it amusing that the Watchtower was working to be designated as "victims of political repression".
One cannot be "politically neutral" and be politically repressed.
Political repression is the persecution of an individual or group within society for political reasons, particularly for the purpose of restricting or preventing their ability to take part in the political life of a society thereby reducing their standing among their fellow citizens.
So, the governing bastards feel that Putin is trying to keep Jehovah's Witnesses out of politics. Interesting...
All the Russians had to do is to ask Watchtower one question. "Do you feel that you have been politically marginalized, that Russia is trying to prevent your participation in Russian politics?"
I'd like to have seen the looks on their faces. What could they say? "No, we are politically neutral?" Ha. Then the court would say "then you cannot be a victim of political repression!"
And if WT boys answer "Yes" then they are not politically neutral.
Alway the hypocrisy...
What evidence could Watchtower boys present to the court to show that the Russian State is trying to prevent Jehovah's Witnesses entry into Russian politics?
It would be good if we go beyond the Wikipedia definition and read about the meaning of Political or State Repression from legal sources.
"Political or State Repression is the application of state power that violate First Amendment–type rights, due process in the enforcement and adjudication of law, and personal integrity or security."
- The Annual Review of Political Science 2007
"Political Repression is often evidenced in the form of human rights violations, surveillance abuse, police brutality, imprisonment, involuntary settlement, stripping of citizen's rights, lustration and violent action such as the murder, summary executions, torture, forced disappearance and other extrajudicial punishment of political activists, dissidents, or general population. Where political repression is approved and coordinated by the state, it may represent state terrorism, genocide, politicide or crimes against humanity."
-US Legal Definition
Any citizen whose basic human rights are violated by the government or the state, he becomes a victim of Political Repression. A person can remain neutral with regards to political activities; but if he is a citizen who pays taxes and has legal verifiable public records, then he is entitled for his civil liberties.
If the citizen, regardless of his political affiliation, is deprived of his basic rights by the ruling state, he becomes a victim of political repression. You don't need to be a part of a political party to be termed as a victim of political repression.
In constitutional terms, active political and social life of the society does not mean just being a member of a political party. It means fostering an environment where all citizens have equal opportunities without discrimination. The state or the government is a part of the social and political life of the society, because the constitution gives rights to the government. The citizens of the country have the complete right to choose which government or party they want to be in their life. Other way, citizens also have a right not to choose to be a part of a political party. There are loads of people apart from JW's who don't have to do anything with politics.
Dreary. You seem to work very hard at making others look stupid and yourself smart.
Also, you left stuff out.
The basis for the term "political repression " cannot be reduced to mere "repression" of any sort and then applied willy nilly.
I can't go fight a speeding ticket with the defense that the act of fining me was "political repression".
Repression is the act of subduing someone by institutional or physical force. Political violence is a particular form of repression involving the use of physical force to achieve political goals.
You conveniently left material out in an effort to twist "political repression " to suit your argument. This is exactly what the WT boys tried, and failed, to do in Russia.
Your quote comes from an article on "Political Science".
As hard as you try to eliminate the "politics" from the sentence, the more prominent the word becomes.
Political violence is a particular form of repression involving the use of physical force to achieve political goals.
Yes, to achieve the goals of the one who is committing the violence, not the victim
Where does it say that you are a victim of political repression only if you are a member of a political party? Individuals with no political affiliation can also become victims of political repression.
I never told that fining someone for speeding is an act of political repression. But stripping a person of his basic rights by using brutality and criminalizing is political repression.
From your own article:
. Acts of repression and/or political violence often violate fundamental human rights, and are sometimes referred to as human rights abuse.
If a group of JW's are arrested and trashed by the state for coming together and praying or discussing the Bible, they become victims of Political Violence and State Repression.
The wave of violence that engulfed JWs during the Nazi and Soviet regime is also classified under political repression and human rights abuse.
There is represssion going on all over the world. The Mafias of the world repress all the time. It's how they assert their power for financial gain. But it's not political...
For repression to be "political", it must involve politics. Try as you like, you will not remove the word "politics " from the word "political".
It is clear from a study of the information, which by the way is taken from articles on "political science", that "political repression" is a particular form or repression. It must involve two diametrically opposed "political " ideologies.
The Watchtower boys failed to demonstrate that the Russian State is persecuting JW because of their opposing political stance.
Hence, it's repressive, but NOT "political".
And when a cop is beating you over the head with his baton because you were driving like an idiot, it's repressive I'm sure, but it's legal.
Not political repression.
By the way Dreary, I saw your post.

Novakov draws attention to the fact that the term structural subdivision is defined in the title of the relevant chapter of the law. The concept of "structural unit" is relevant only to political parties.
Court announces a break until 12 April 2017 10:00.
Victims of "political repression" - I think it's the other way round.
Hitherto, Russian householders are victims of Watchtower repression on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.
The Jehovah's Witnesses are politically repressed. By the Watchtower.
The repression is internal - the JWs are blocked from participating in the political life of a society by the very institution they belong to - The Watchtower Society is guilty of political repression.
