Prince Performs Secret Gig In Melbourne

Patrons of the jazz club Bennett's Lane in Melbourne last night got great value for their $20 cover charge, a surprise performance by Prince.

Prince used the 200 capacity venue to rehearse the official start of his Australian tour starting tonight at Rod Laver Arena.

The show offered up the same set-list published by Undercover on Sunday confirming the tour to be the promised best of. The small audience of Bennett's Lane last night all had a close-up view of the performance of songs like 'Kiss' and 'When Doves Cry'.

Getting a close-up of Prince in Melbourne may be a rarity but back home in Minnesota, Prince sighting have become regular ever since the star converted to Jehovah's Witness two years ago.

Prince goes door knocking around Edina, Minnesota. Local townsfolk speak about the surprise of having Prince knock on their door and asking them to convert. He often goes door knocking with another musician, Larry Graham (formerly of Sly and the Family Stone).

On New Year's Eve 2001 he married his second wife Manuela Testolini in a Jehovah's Witness ceremony in Hawaii. Manuela is Canadian. The couple owns a house in one of Toronto's richest suburbs as well as the Paisley Park mansion in Minnesota.

Prince plays tonight and tomorrow at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Friday and Saturday at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and Monday October 27 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
