Those were all very interesting cases from the 40's.
there was an excellent book written by Prof. William Kaplan (University of Toronto Press) entitled: State & Salvation:
It outlined a lot of the legal history of the JW's (primarily Canadian cases but touched on the ones referenced at the site you mentioned.
He did make a valid point amongst his praise for thecivil libertarian efforts. He readily admitted that there was no noble objective in these battles. they were soley interested in protecting themselves. It was not about human rights it was about their rights. Rings true to me.
