There was a similar programme not long ago about the ship - an amazing achivement. Something like the first metal ship, biggest proppeller by 2x and lots of other firsts.

Yes in the states we have the History Channel and it does quite a lot of history of engineering and ships and all that good stuff -- not justUS stuff either -- there have been a number about constructing the channel tunnel etc.
