  Rank and file. It's a name the watchtower corporation has given to the average cult member. I saw the quote somewhere but can't locate it currently.

  Hi Drifting Away,

  I'm not 100% sure but I believe "rank and file" is a Chess reference. Where each row is a "rank" and each column is "file". Thus rank and file gives reference primarily to the pawns on the board.
