Yes. It also appears that WT is doing a rolling programme of these Special Conventions each year.

Even if I was "exemplary" I wouldn't go on an overpriced scripted trip anywhere.
Mrs hoser has been on a couple of "bethel tours" with a JW travel agency. She said it is not worth the hassle and the price they charge.

Those who book these overpriced trips are covering the expenses of others (COs, Bethelites, Etc) that get to go for FREE. . . . . . . Doc

I'm going to tell you of a story I witnessed 1st hand about a special convention held in this country. The deal was they could arrange their own flights but had to stay X number of nights at the assigned hotel. I personally knew a couple who were coming to the convention. I thought great I can show hospitality and save them a great deal of money by staying with me. That idea got shut down pretty quickly. So I ask them to send a letter to the bethel in their country asking if it's ok to stay with me. Btw these people were from a developing country and I realized what a sacrifice it was. We had also had talks about showing hospitality. Anyway to cut a long story short, I catch up with them at the assembly, and I ask them about the hotel situation and about the response they got. "Wt never replied to the letter", and they didn't want to burden the brothers by asking again so opted for the motels. In reflection I just think you bloody mongrels for doing that to these people. I also found out later one ended up selling his car so she could pay for the trip. That special convention was one of the last I attended.
