Back when I was a boy, we were using the old green songbook entitled "Songs to Jehovah's Praise". One of the songs contained the lyrics: "happy is the man who stays awake and keeps his outer garments". I don't know what the song was called.

I'm pretty sure that the melody to this song was another rip-off from an already existing tune, in this case the Maine stein song. I'm just trying to identify the Kingdum melody for no other reason than it amuses me to do so. I'd never heard the original song before it was parodied on The Two Ronnies Show, at which I jumped up thinking OMG, Kingdom songs on the telly!

Here's the original tune. Anyone got any ideas?

Omg.... I used to know each and every one in that book....grew up with it....then there was the pink one. Most of the music was lifted from something else. The Noah ark song was taken from one of Beethoven sonatas....the lyrics you mention don't ring a bell with me....but hey 45, 50 years ago...

Curiously though, awile ago I was at a Catholic funeral and the hymn book was fascinating. So many of the hymns were so reminiscent of that old green one...miusic and words. We had the hymn song book that predated that green one... That one from the 20s and 30s was all protestant stuff.

That scripture is Rev. 16:15 right between verses 14 and 16 where Armageddon is mentioned.

As to classical music, if it is old enough it is no longer under copyright laws I do believe.

Are you sure it is song 87?

Interesting! I only remember the purple soft cover song book from the 70s. Two songs I remember some of the lyrics to:

"We're Jehovah's Witnesses, we speak out in fearlessness. Ours is the God of true prophecy....What He foretells comes to be."

    And:

"But as for me, determined I shall be.....blah blah blah....In my integrity."

I loved the piano and loved singing but resisted the urge to just belt it out. LOL I've heard that there is no more piano playing and the music just sucks nowadays.

    peace,
