I just wanted to relate a recent experience that I found refreshing.
I was asked to help out at a local Sunday School, organised (strangely enough) by a church. Whilst apologetic about the so-called imposition, I was firmly invited to read the "Child Abuse Policy", and sign a form that would allow a background check to be made on me.
I must have surprised the organiser, because I snatched it up with glee, and read it all on the spot. It was a well written document, that was totally child-safety centered.
Anyone else had an similar experience of organisations putting the welfare of children first?
YES! Mrs T and I work as volunteers in the nursery at our church. We had to read and sign an abuse policy, and consent to a background check. It is against a very strictly enforced rule for any of us to be alone in a room with the children.
As a side note what a refreshing change from the KH: kids of all ages get to spend Sunday morning in an age appropriate learning environment, they get crafts and snacks, sing songs they can understand. Way better than doodling while some adult drones on about something they can't possibly understand.
