naughty elder in Detroit

passed on from a loyal JW:

Disgrace was surely brought upon Jehovah's name last night. On the 10 o'clock news there is this program called the problem solvers. They tend to follow city, state, and school board employees. They track these people doing things they ought not, and air it on the news. Most everyone in metro Detroit watches it. Last night they aired a story of a Detroit school employee that grossed about $95,000 last year, $43,000 of it being in over time. They found this to be odd and tracked him over the period of a week.

The man was an Elder in a Detroit congregation. He would go to work on the weekend for 5 min. Then leave to meet with the group for field service. it was terrible. They showed him at people's doors witnessing, the kingdom hall, and the car groups. They mentioned numerous times that he was an elder in the congregation, the equivalent to a pastor. The time he spent out in service he was logging as over time. The news crew confronted him as well, asking if he worked on the weekend. He told them yes. They said they had a video of him doing things other than working. They asked if he was acting honestly and if he was setting a good example to the congregation. He refused to comment and walked away.

It was truly a disgrace to Jehovah's name and the organization. I bet they'll mention it in an article or at the district convention. This news special will be re-shown and posted on the Internet. Might already be at click on the problem solvers.

So, this would give you a good excuse to spank him. I'll bet you would love it.

I just searched the site top to bottom. Nothing has been posted that I can find yet.

My name is Slipnslideius Masterus: commander of the armies of the North, general of the Felix legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius...

You know, I would revel in this, but I would be just as bad as those "Armageddon Movie" JWs. This certainly gives 'em a

But, I'll bet he had one AWESOME time slip.

  • hippikon

Would I get sacked for going to the group then sneeking of to work?

Then there's the elders and min. serv. that prepare meeting parts (talks) on company time ... but then it is for Jehovah ... so guess the employers understand.

Hey! You go out in field service and cheat on your time, you may as well do it at work too! I know many JWs who cheat on their time to "God" so what difference does it make if you apply the same "principles" to your time to a "worldly" group, your job? He is at least practicing what he "preaches"!

When I talked to 2 JW ladies at the airport JW literature desk in January they were both underlining their Watchtowers. I think they were counting time and doing pre-study at the same time. I guess Jehovah won't mind because they were doing something vitally important--sitting at the airport doing nothing.

if it was on the "problem solvers" segment, it would have been on the Fox affiliate in Detroit,
and clickondetroit is the web address for the NBC affiliate.

the link for the problem solvers station is :

the story isn't up there, maybe they just haven't posted it yet. they usually do follow up over
the next few nights after a story airs too, will be interesting to watch and see.

the best part too is that in most cases, these stories originate from viewer tips. wonder who turned
    him in.

  • chester

The story is true. I saw it myself this evening.

It was on Fox 2 Detroit.

I checked the problem solvers link but it was not there yet.

I am surprised that no one from Detroit has replied to this post.
Everyone in Detroit must be Loyal Jdubs.

    But the story IS true.

The elder learned from the best. The WT breeds deception.

WITNESS no more! Borg will make an example out of him.

However, the official explanation would be something along the lines that because he was practicing nefarious behavior that isn’t approved by the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he had already dissociated himself from the organization that hadn’t as yet dealt formally with this incident and wouldn't be considered a "loyal" member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

"...But thank-you very much, for presenting the additional information that will help accelerate the process for a formal and justifiable decision of…severe demotion and “loving” counseling within the congregation."

Just found this and happen to recall this vividly. The PO at the KH I went to at the time told me that this elder had done no wrong, although it looked bad of course. Apparantly he had an on call type of job, and could leave during those hours and would have to come back should he be needed.

I believe he had some responsibilities at the conventions as well. Nothing happened to him.
