Still supporting the troops

Yesterday was Armed Services Day in the USA.

Our public library sponsored "troop aid" for the troops that are still serving. We have 41 young people serving from our town. We're a city of about 10,000.

We were asked to bring personal supplies for the troops(foot powder, lotions, sun glasses, gum etc.) or cash to help pay for the postage. We have done this once before sending 41 "freedom boxes". Some of the families of the soldiers were there and they read parts of letters expressing appreciation at receiving a box of personal supplies.

The librarian and her husband are from Scotland(loved those accents) and her husband was the announcer for the event. There was a bagpipe band that played "Amazing Grace" and then a series of patriotic numbers.

There was Irish Dancing and some of the members of SHOCKWAVE had returned home from Star Search and they performed a clog dancing number.

Finally the event finished up with a country gospel band.

Our group is going to the Veteran's Home next month on Flag day, and the Irish Dancers and SHOCKWAVE both said they want to accompany us to entertain the vets. The vets will love it.

    It was an enjoyable afternoon.
