So aren't 17 years old still legally under the parents supervision? What happens if they get injured? Can they go out of state if the court order with the other parent does not allow it?

I agree Blondie! If a 17 year old minor were to have a serious injury, I don't think the Watchtower is going to take responsibility and pay for an injured back for the rest of the life of the minor.
It could cause family problems if one of the parents were not in agreement and the other thought differently. Some JW parents would feel honored that their son or daughter were considered.
But they don't think ahead in case of an injury. The parent would have to take responsibility for caring for a minor, and if the injury was serious, the parent may have to care for them permanently.
