  I have no interest whatsoever in stirring up controversy.

  In fact, I find clashes of opinion to be debilitatingly negative.

  So, I'd simply like to request that we narrow this discussion to EVIDENCE.

  Please watch this video which is tantalizingly titled :

  "There's No Such Thing as Mental Illness".

  Consider this data and listen to the presentation of cause vs. effects and give me your analysis and any evidence for conclusions you may draw. We all have anecdotal tendencies, but I should remind you, anecdotal testimony isn't evidence, only opinion.

  The descriptive term such as mental illness has such a wide variance and associated meanings .
  

  The GB members were recently pointed out as being mentally deranged or damaged but how does one define mental illness by religious cult leaders who have placed themselves into a position of power and control to support a singular organization. ?

  I did a bit of skipping through the video. Very frustrating that he admits mental suffering is real but never gets around to sharing what he thinks is going on if it isn't an illness.

  I only got to the 1:39 mark when I realized where that video was going to go. He's going to accuse the psychiatric profession of having determined these maladies mental illnesses so that pharmaceutical companies could make bookoo bucks. There might be a point that mental illness has been over diagnosed. For example, regular depression that almost everyone has gone through because of a major crisis in their lives versus major depression which afflicts persons throughout their lives even if they have no personal crisis.

  I have known schizophrenic persons and I know that there is something imbalanced in their minds; that is their brains. I have known bipolar persons who hallucinate and hear voices in their head.

  Just because the pharmaceutical companies are making a killing doesn't mean that the concept of mental illness is wrong.

  I think these mood altering drugs are just a temporary fix which may at first help to reduce depression and anguish but in the end their effectiveness wears off and the person is left to moving on to another drug which inevitably will do exactly the same thing.
  

  I think a more effective way to resolve certain problematic mental issues with is by changing their day to day social environment and their behavior to better strengthen their mental state, complemented by nutritious eating, good sleeping habits and daily exercise, rather the letting chemical drugs to resolve their problems.

  Much of society today depends on using various prescription drugs, alcohol, illicit drugs such as Pot etc to get by on a day to day basis, like its the only way they can live and cope.
  

  This only leads to other problems toward themselves in the long run so they go searching for other things to do , inevitably the wrong things and they place themselves again distant from living a happy and wholesome lifestyle

  I think there is enough scientific evidence proving that the brain is the organ that is responsible for the mental faculties. Secondly, given that the brain is not an invincible organ but is subject to damage and dysfunction just like any other organ, it is only logical that a dysfunctional brain would result in mental dysfunction, or in other words, metal illness.

  Anyone claiming that there is no such thing as mental illness must either be a Scientologist or they must be mentally ill them self - or both.
