Judging by Jehovah Gods past dealings with the Israelite / Jews , I wonder why anybody can take seriously anything that he has promised for the future .

Or is it what humans want to believe he has in store for them ?

During Jehovah`s dealings with the Israelites they had a leprosy colony in their midst .He didn`t do anything about that .

They had wars that he instigated and supported and people died on both sides of the wars. israelites as well as the enemy.

He accepted slavery ,did nothing about it

.The Israelites enjoyed spoils of war ,virgins of the defeated enemy. No thought for the poor virgins who had their parents killed and forced into a union with one who did it ?

Jehovah God is supposed to be the ultimate chemist in creating the universe and all he could do is carve out of stone ? the ten commandments .?

What did Jehovah God ever do technologically advanced in any field ,medicine etc. for their time, with the Israelites to set them apart from other people for his namesake? Nothing . zilch ,zero.

Why would anybody believe what imperfect humans today claim God is going to do this or that ?

Obviously God cannot speak for himself.

And apparently Jesus Christ can`t either .

Yet both of them supposedly had no trouble communicating with us in years gone by.

yeah, we have to pry the answers out of nature by ourselves, by flying sky cranes to Mars for example.

You have made a valid point. I also disagree with the whole concept of apologetics which is nothing more than mental gymnastics based on speculation and circular deduction. However, it also brings to light a common thread of reasoning seen. That common thread is the atheist view of god or gods being intergalactic butlers to the human race.

The hypothesis is that, if there is an all-powerful, conscious entity who created mankind it is this entity's moral duty to make sure man has -

“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?” ― Friedrich Nietzsche

In the 1800s Nietzsche saw the rise of rationalism and naturalism. He new it would be the end of religion in the West. He predicated that the end result would be one of two pathologies - nihilism and totalitarian authoritarian utopias. In other words, rationalism has replaced the supernatural intergalactic butler with the national butler, government.

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him.

What if all the gods ever envisioned by man never really existed including Jehovah/Yahweh but were caused by humanity's ignorance of the world in which we live ?

Ancient mythological expressions by man supports the theory of human ignorance does it not ?

You have a good point as to gods never existing as man explains them. There seems to be a point in human history where things change. There seems to be individuals who gained enlightenment (probably through drug use or dehydration/starvation techniques) and used a common system to try and explain what they learned. In turn, other men took the enlightenment and turned it into a system of rules. Compare what Jesus taught and what he did versus the religion of Christianity.

Spirituality is something you experience and not something to conform to. Religion should be used to express gratitude for life and sharing how it makes you happy with others. Unfortunately religion is used to control the behavior of others.

I feel like the god of the bible is somewhat of a functioning alcoholic. You never quite know what side of the bed he is going to wake up on. You might get promised a trip to Disneyland or you might get smitten.

Or course that opinion could be because there's some truth to Tyler Durdan's quote in Fight Club: "If you're male and you're Christian and living in America, your father is your model for God."

Men created gods to mostly empower themselves, including the god Yahweh by the ancient Hebrews.

This exercise in self empowerment can be seen in the leaders of the many structured religions which exist today such as the JWS.
