The attorneys gave them bad advice, and when contacted the WT says we don't comment on specific cases. What a cop out!

Kinda looks like these guys got thrown under the bus by the watchtower corp. They were probably told verbally not to report and when the shit hits the fan the watchtower pulls out this article saying that they are supposed to report.

    Bastards.

Those two men are now convicted felons. Due to their age, they won't suffer too much from having that on their records, but other elders need to pay close attention to what happened.

ATTENTION JW ELDERS: DO NOT ACCEPT DIRECTION FROM WATCHTOWER ATTORNEYS AT FACE VALUE. CALL THE LOCAL POLICE AND ASK IF THE DIRECTION IS ACCURATE FOR YOUR LOCALITY.

Accepting bad legal advice can get you thrown in jail and labeled as a co-conspirator. The error may never catch up with the attorney who dispensed the advice, but you will pay dearly. Ask a bank or an employer how they feel about felons. Don't put yourself in that position. The buck will stop with you.

They aren't felons. Class A misdemeanors.

Jehovah's Witnesses elders were sentenced Friday to one year of court supervision, 10 hours of community service and $250 in fines for failing to report that a congregant was sexually abusing a child.

They will be applauded for "taking one [unscriptural judgement] for The Team". They suffer at the hands of Caesar who is no more than a puppet of the Devil.

Asking a civil attorney for legal advice on a criminal matter is like asking a plumber how to fix your electrical problem. Being an attorney is like being a doctor - there is no one stop shop.

There's a basic lesson here: Lawyers work for whoever signs their checks. In this case the WTBS. All JW elders should have a lawyer who works for them lined up and ready when needed.

Boogerman : The mother should have been charged as well - and hammered by the judge!

Parents are not mandatory reporters, neither is anyone not involved in a professional capacity.
