Once again, for the slow witted out there:

    It's NOT about getting free stuff;

It's about obtaining services that we should be getting FOR THE MONEY WE ALREADY PUT IN!

It's about obtaining services that we should be getting FOR THE MONEY WE ALREADY PUT IN!

This is the problem I have with Bernie and more socialism in general. We will NEVER get all the services we "should" be getting for the money we put in when it comes to gov providing such services. Gov has proven time and time again that it is really REALLY inefficient at spending its citizen's money. There's just too much Bureaucracy. This is why our social programs are bloated and will collapse sooner or later, as well as why most other countries practicing a stronger form of socialism are not doing so well.

So it's really hard to convince me that I should pay more into such system, in hopes that finally gov will provide the services it "should" provide.

Alternatively, show me an economic system that has created more wealth, brought up more ppl out of poverty, and stimulated more innovation than has capitalism.

The " rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. " THAT is what the corporate leaders want, THAT is what the 1 % want , THAT is what the wealthy elite Republican leaders want - in order to keep people in their allegedly " proper place and pecking order ".

Wall street wants poorer people " dumbed down " so they won't see through the veneer that is Hillary & Trump as they know these people are desperate and won't do the research needed to see that their lives are being duped by billionaire elitists. That's one reason Trump stated in a victory speech about a month ago , " We LOVE the undereducated " ! He doesn't actually love THEM ! He loves that they are UNDEREDUCATED because they won't bother to call him on his shit !

It's the same principle as JW's NOT doing research about the corruption of the WT Society. They put their fingers in their ears and go " nah, nah ,nah " and refuse to research the facts. Same concept for those who think Hillary and Trump are the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Nothing is further from the truth. They are unscrupulous, dishonest billionaires who have lied, manipulated their way to the top 1 % of wealth and are sociopath's who refuse to admit wrongdoing. You want THEM to lead this country ?

Time to take a SERIOUS look at Bernie Sanders and how he actually has financed his own campaign instead of whoring himself out to the corporates and global elitists who want to crush the poor. Sanders is a much better choice for president

West European countries have done much better than the US as regards their standard of living. The recent economic situation was a worldwide event due to the Bank collapse of 2008, not bureaucracy in general.

I don't know much about US politics.

Perhaps there's a discussion to be had about right-wing vs left-wing policies re food stamps.

But I think putting the youtube vid in the OP is in bad taste.

These people in Georgia might need the support that food stamps gives them.

There is a Bernie rally at my school every week and the biggest reason he has most of their vote is because he promises free college and the whole premise of redistribution of wealth sounds good to broke college kids.

On the flip side my BF is very wealthy, def in the top 5% and to him and his family a Bernie win is going to be a big loss to their company and the sovereignty of the US for various reasons.

I get both sides of the issue (I'm on the poor side myself) but I have to agree with my BF when he says that a Bernie win will hit the middle class the most. For his family to pay another $3 million per year in taxes will not prevent them from buying another vacation home but for a working middle class family like my family to pay another $3,000 per year in taxes means the difference between putting food on the table or not or skipping some other things that make life enjoyable. Bernie's 2% tax increase for the middle class is what lost my vote. Nothing in life is free. Nothing.

And to everyone saying the European way is better, why don't you go move there yourself? I actually have family there, lots of family. It is not all rosy as you think it is.

Americans think too much about "My money that I put in" and not enough about society. That's why the society is a mess.

Not everyone is fortunate all the time either socially or health-wise. Some people will always need help and there needs to be a safety net if you want to call yourself a civilized society.

If we want to talk about "takers" then what about the greedy few who take billions and trillions out of the system, who pay less than a living wage and expect tax payers to pick up the rest of the tab so they can make more money.

That is the real problem and Bernie is attacking the problem head on. If you think a guy getting some feed stamps is holding your country back then you are an idiot and most probably a Trump supporter. Enjoy life on the street if your life ever takes an unexpected turn.

Not all, but many are facing some downward spirals on economic indicators, including (off the top of my head): Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina (many other in S.America), European nations including big ones like Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, and anemic growth or less in most others in the EU.

The recent economic situation was a worldwide event due to the Bank collapse of 2008, not bureaucracy in general.
While in part much of the economic situation is the lingering effects of 2008, not all of it is. There are real systemic issues within most of the countries, a lot of it from bloated social programs creating the necessity for ever higher taxation.

he actually has financed his own campaign instead of whoring himself out to the corporates and global elitists who want to crush the poor. Sanders is a much better choice for president.

Can you truly say that Bernie has "financed his own campaign"? He has millions and millions of dollars worth of donations and contributions, mostly from Unions and other Orgs that might benefit from his presidency. Also, if avoiding candidates with corporate donations is something good, then the same can be said for Trump, as he is actually much closer to really be "financing his own campaign" then is Bernie.

    -----

I do agree that we need some level of social programs, primarily as a safety net. However, as history has proven, we must be really careful with an ever expanding gov promising everything for us. As the quote goes: "a government big enough to give you everything you need, is a government big enough to take everything you have".

Apart from that, my point still stands: there is no system, in the history of humankind, to lift more ppl out of poverty, create more wealth and foster more innovation than has capitalism. I don't understand the apparent mainstream logic today that is painting it to be the cause of holding ppl back, of why there is so much poverty and of it being the root of all the troubles in the world. It's just nonsense..

then you are an idiot and most probably a Trump supporter.

Ad hominem. Simon, just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean they're an idiot and doesn't mean they support a fascist.

I feel Food Stamps are a benefit that is taken advantage of and needs reform. I know this from experience because I was on food stamps at one time. It is easy to take advantage and game the system, if you wanted to.

I support Bernie Sanders, though, because I think he's the best option for uniting this country. Not because I agree with him on every issue of his platform.

What this country needs right now is a uniter. Not a divider. We need an FDR or a JFK. Trump or Hillary will just be another divisive figure over promising and under delivering, just like Obama's administration.

That's why this fiscal conservative supports Bernie. Because I know what's best for the big picture.
