Good article NikL. Thank-you for bringing this out. It really shows how outrageous the Borg's shunning practices are. That poor women who went through that horrible experience by her father and then the WT. Absolutely insane how the WT Cult acts. Still Totally ADD

I watched the replies of the Uniting Church for about half an hour. They were sooooo very different from the WT. They had set about right away to change things after the hearing of the Royal Commission, and each time spoken to answered directly, with a 'yes' or a 'no' followed by an explanation....

Quite in contrast with the WT representatives who answered using subterfuge, acting as if they did not know the words "yes" or "no" existed.

The two WT reps were very legalistic, though both claimed not to be lawyers. However, the two women & one man that represented the UC had heart & compassion. The WT had rules.

As an atheist determining who was more christian in their answers To the ARC the Uniting Church won hands down.

The UC were contrite in their answers and apologised and answered questions without trying to defend their failings.

In contrast the JW`s continually tried to defend the indefensible taking the ARC to task for not understanding their scriptual interpretations and continually defecting to legalisms much to the frustation of SC Angus Stewart

Imagine if JWs decided from now on all children baptised under age 18 can freely leave the church with no family sanctions or or those sexually abused are free to leave also with no sanctions. There would be a lot of people claiming to be abused just to get the ticket out, but as soon as they had there first birthday party or Christmas it would be back to the shunning and the church court goes full swing.

Where's that cartoon showing the priest and the minister apologizing, and the JW elder stating that the "children were unrepentent"?

    I did like this bit:

Counsel assisting Angus Stewart - "The real answer is because you say the bible says so. That's the answer, isn't it?"
Mr. O'Brien - "Yes, that's our understanding of the scriptural disfellowshipping disassociation doctrine."

A surprising (and unexpectantly) honest moment.

"We have to be assholes 'cause the Bible says so!"

You do realize that the United Church had a different relationship with the abusers and the victims. These events took place in schools and out of home institutions. So the abusers were employees of the church and the victims were under the complete legal trust of the church.
