Is "Cessationism" A Correct Bible Understanding & Teaching . . . What Do You Say? (See 1 Corinthians 13:8-12)

The Watchtower Society believes and teaches "Cessationism."

In short, a simplified definition of the term: Cessationism is the view that the “miracle gifts” of tongues and healing have ceased—that the end of the apostolic age brought about a cessation of the miracles associated with that age. Most cessationists believe that, while God can and still does perform miracles today, the Holy Spirit no longer uses individuals to perform miraculous signs.

The Watchtower Society's above erroneous viewpoint is mistakenly based upon, SINGULARLY, a faulty misinterpretation of the following bible text:

    1 Corinthians 13th chapter:

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, THE PARTIAL WILL PASS AWAY. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

The early church leaders in the first 3 centuries still reported these things happening. It is not like they ceased with the death of the last apostle like many would like to believe But, they do seem to really trail off in time.

My belief is that the miraculous gifts (healings, tongues, visions, prophecies etc) did eventually cease. Jesus told his apostles and disciples made during his time on earth that when they recieved holy spirit they would be his witnesses to the most distant part of the earth, then shortly before his death he prayed in behalf of them, and those putting faith in him through their word.

These two groups, original apostles and disciples, and those they taught would seem to be the "annointed" christians, as the scripures relate that holy spirit and its gifts were recieved and used by them. Once the Christian congregarion was established the gifts eventually ceased but their love and unity remained as their identifying mark.

I do think there are very rare "miraculous" healings that occur today , but entirely through the power of God, not using any human agent. What little I've seen of modern so-called speaking in tongues seems like pychological excitement rather than actual language. Modern religious visions (Bayside prophecies, etc.) are very questionable, and prophecies made today seldom, if ever come true..

“28 “And after that it must occur that I shall pour out my spirit on every sort of flesh, and YOUR sons and YOUR daughters will certainly prophesy. As for YOUR old men, dreams they will dream. As for YOUR young men, visions they will see. 29 And even on the menservants and on the maidservants in those days I shall pour out my spirit. 30 “And I will give portents in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. 31 The sun itself will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, BEFORE THE COMING OF THE GREAT FEAR-INSPIRING DAY OF JEHOVAH. 32 And it must occur that everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will get away safe; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will prove to be the escaped ones, just as Jehovah has said, and in among the survivors, whom Jehovah is calling.”” (Joel 2:28-32)

If we are to understand the expression, "BEFORE THE COMING OF THE GREAT FEAR-INSPIRING DAY OF JEHOVAH," to mean before Armageddon in the above bible text, then we would have to conclude the "gifts of the spirit" have not ceased to occur upon earth, as taught by the Watchtower Society.
