Today I awoke from dreams of nocturnal flight,

Hoping they might take me through the day and

Lift me skyward, though now fully awake.

E'er a child at heart and full of hope, I left my perch

And begged Icarus that he should hear my plea to

Enter that realm where once he briefly sailed.

Head bowed, I spoke my heart, cast my eyes toward

The eternal sun and lifted off an earth that gave way

To a boy who dared dream what could not be . . .

    To Wes Craven

A broad smile plays on my face, my nerves jangling

    Fingers fluttering, I press play.

    I shouldn't like this but I do.

Shadows and scraping and a young girl gets butchered.

A body, limp in a body bag, gets dragged down the hallway and

Leaves a snail trail of blood.

    Savage, sick, sexually perverted ...

The cornered teen gulps for air as

The clawed hand moves closer, closer.

There is much entertainment in the watching of nightmares.

    Wes Craven (1939 - 2015).

    Gone but not forgotten.
