A lot of the kids I know who went seemed to gravitate toward some sunny climate and sandy beaches and serving where the need is more fun, rather than heading for Alaska to witness to a village on the frozen tundra. They put a few hours in field service each day or ever so many days and head to the beach. Mom and Dad financed them usually and they stayed with other JW's for little or nothing. I imagine it will stay the same even though they are cutting back at H.Q.

We have a 19 year old all googly eyed because he is heading off to Patterson Bethel this month. His assignment is for just 1 year, but he sounds like he fully expects them to keep him on afterward.

    Poor deluded kid.

Actually, it's just as well, he'll be out when he's 20, rather than when he's 55. He can still try to make a career doing something after his Bethel stint.

And, to be fair, he may get some training in something useful for his CV.

A 19 year old "new boy" is gonna learn how to efficiently clean toilets and bonnet buff carpets. That's about it.

Can't wait to see how he posts that as career experience on his resume.
