Right now ( Sunday night , 10 pm ) I am Watching a programme on ID channel about a tragedy in a Witness family . It is not showing them in a good light , at all

An new elder talks to a woman who was disfellowshipped for being raped . He is appalled at the lack of sympathy shown by the elders . He writes to the GB questioning the way rape victims are treated . Still half of the programme to go but it is clear that the pressure that this puts on his family leads to some of the family being slaughtered ..

The commentary mentions shunning and hateful behaviour . Any non Witness watching this will really have their eyes opened.

American members here may be familiar with this story , but this is new to me .The couple are Robert and Janet Bryant .

Shunning has just been likened to psychological torture ! This is really showing the bad side of the Watchtower .

To be honest though it looks like this event happened well after they left the JWS and moved away. Sad nevertheless.

It pays to keep in mind that JWS are just regular common people, who get into problems like anyone else.

It might be easy to assume that this guy who was DFed and broke away from his JW family and associates may have been a bit emotionally off balanced from that the lack of support from his family.

Going though all the JWS troubling disturbance as well bankruptcy might have just pushed him over the edge.

Yes the JWS shunning policy has caused detrimental effects onto many people, its just not a modern way of doing things. The WTS. has convincingly coerced people to their organization, then entraps them mentally and socially for its own sustaining means of exploitation and manipulation.

Fink what I thought was good about the programme was the way it highlighted shunning , how even this man's own family shunned him without question . Also the way rape victims are treated by elders .

The point was made that rapists who " repented " could stay in the org but their victims were ostracised .

Non JWs know about the blood policy and not celebrating Christmas etc but this brought a whole other dimension of the org to light .

JWs bang on about how they're better than everyone else. They're just the same. It's a disguise. Good and bad in all. the hypocrisy is when they claim there is no/not much bad.
