"God" has released a new album ... !! (well, I;ve only just seen it - don't go into album shops much at my age)

One of the many oddities of Bob Dylan's long and unruly career has been the rather cursory recording treatment given his stint as ringleader of the Rolling Thunder Revue. It's a shortcoming that's rectified with the release of Live 1975. Prior to the appearance of this two-disc collection, Rolling Thunder's eclectic road show was chronicled only in the infrequently screened, Dylan-directed Renaldo & Clara film and the bafflingly brief and one-note 1976 live set, Hard Rain. In contrast to its predecessor, this set, culled from four appearances made in November and December of '75, captures the breadth and subtleties of Dylan's Rolling Thunder performances. "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You," formerly a coda from Nashville Skyline, is given a rather incongruous bite here, while "It Ain't Me, Babe" is colored brightly by multi-instrumentalist David Mansfield along with erstwhile David Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson , the sparkplug of the gratifyingly ragtag group that coalesced on short notice. Solo acoustic performances weave through caterwauling full-band treatments of songs old ("The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll) and new ("Hurricane" and four other selections from Desire, which wouldn't hit the racks until early '76). While the contributions of a number of caravan cohorts and guests are left out, Joan Baez shares the spotlight with Dylan on four numbers, most notably on the rarity "Mama, You Been on My Mind" and the traditional "The Water Is Wide." But despite its cavalcade trappings, it was Dylan's show, and this collection demonstrates finally just how close to his '60s peak the '70s Dylan was. --Steven Stolder

Simon, that is an awesome album! You should order it immediately!! I bought it as soon as it came out, and I love it!

You might also want to check out Bob's last two studio albums, Time Out of Mind and Love and Theft (which was released, of all days, on 9/11/01 - it wasn't the big news story of the day). But both albums are excellent, and Time Out of Mind has been regarded by many critics as Bob's best since Blood on the Tracks, which came out in the mid-1970's.

Yes, Blood on the Tracks is awesome - I loved the first bootleg collection which had quite a few alternate songs from that album.

I'm waiting for Mr Amazon and Mr Postman to do their stuf

I got Live '75 as my Chrissy present!

There are some great tracks on it, the acoustic Tambourine Man and Its all over now Baby Blue are worth the double CD price alone. The Water is Wide is also excellent. Unfortunately on some of the songs Bob uses his "shouting voice" and the mix of the CD is such that Bobs voice is really in the foreground, so the few "shouty songs" tend to give me a headache.

The duets with Joan are OK, but its a case of "take them or leave them", if you don't like Baez then thats a bit of a problem.

But the opener "Tonight I'll be staying here with you" is just great. If you are not out of your chair and jumping when this track is on please immediately go to a doctor and have your pulse taken as you may already be dead.

The sound quality is simply superb; its been remastered to perfection. I have an old bootleg of Hurricane Carter benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, which was a week or so later than these concerts. Its a bit scratchy but the show that night in New York was so good, I would actually say it shoulda been made the official release, in my opinion anyway. But maybe thats just because I have owned it now for 25 years and am more used to it.

Anyway enjoy! I don't think Bob will let you down! (read the liner notes!!!)

    I love Bob Dylan.

A shop near where I live, seems to play Bob Dylan constantly. Every time that I go there , the maestro is heard. His melodic,far-reaching, lyrical genius, reaches deep into the hearts and minds of the likes of myself and other Dr Marten lovers nationwide.

I saw Bob Dylan play at Earls Court in London sometime in the seventies. My friend and i hitched from Burnley all the way down and back. We had a blast.I hadn't thought about that for a long time. Strange what age does. Ah well.....
