Have been trying to edit this post for ages, so I'll just have to add another reply of my own. Is it just me? Doesn't anyone else feel a certain sense of horror at the way the WT has cynically tried to cut off one of the few avenues in which a Dub kid could subtly get a life outside the KH? Here is the introductory paragraph I've been trying to insert into the original post:

JW kids have a boring and non-existent life - all concessions and consideration towards them were removed during the Rutherford/Knorr eras. No Sunday School, birthdays, school sports and other activities, Christmas, association with non-Dub kids or family. More liberal parents may consider boarding school as a way in which an unbaptised child can have a taste of life outside the Borg without too much hassle. The Borg noticed this and produced an article in the March 15, 1997 Watchtower. Here are the "unbiased testimonies" of some (unidentifiable) JW kids re boarding school:

Yes, yes, yes - all very amusing etc., but this (surprisingly neglected) thread is supposed to be about the Dub attitude to boarding school. I'm surprised Metatron at least didn't poke his head in here, seeing as how he is one of the main preachers against the WT's hatred of all things to do with childhood/youth.

I've read the rest of the article and it seems that the WT is pretty dark on the idea of boarding schools from the strong wording of the article. But are they banned?

Boarding schools are not banned but strongly frowned upon just as any occasion you are away from their grasp (long schooltrips, living at campus etc). What struck me as funny was this quote:

It's not easy to stand out as different. I wanted to follow the group.

Don't go to boarding school! You'll just follow the group! Join our group instead!

    Nutballs!
