I have just watched this movie not realising it is based on an autobiography of a real life Navy Seal .A man who did 4 tours overseas .He is officially recognised  as killing 164 ? people , I think he claimed about 200+

I havent read the book , I have only seen the movie and of course they take libertys their in what they portray ,Clint Eastwood had his fingerprint on it .

The movie portrayed him as an all american boy , a patriot who would fight tooth and nail for his country and his comrades .Spoiler......

It is ironic that he was murdered with a gun , by a fellow war veteran who he was trying  to help.

I would love to hear your responses to this post

I wasn't aware of him / the story until I saw the movie trailer and book on Amazon. Definitely something I want to check-out - it looks fairly gripping and hopefully isn't too "John Wayne" in it's portrayal of US troops.

Funny you should say that simon ,after meditating on the movie i thought of John Wayne as his character , in one sense , however much more sophisticated for this century .

I've seen it, yep it was very ironic how he died.

I think Clint did a reasonably balanced job between showing the nature of warfare and not glorifying it too much.
