The conservative Christian right tried to make a big deal about a judge who declined to perform weddings. They claimed that if Kim Davis must issue marriage licences to all, this juddge should have to perform weddings for all. But a judges job is obviously to...Judge. performing weddings has always been optional, it's not part of their job, per se. They are as ready to claim persecution as the Watchtower. While claiming to only want rights, what they really want is privilege.

Their fools who are going to get public opinion so angry, maybe they will lose their tax-exempt status? How can they call this persecution when the homosexuals and LGBT were alive and since man has existed. If they had half a brain or studied Art, what about the Bronze Age showing two men together on vases dated 600 bc?

The First Century literature is so limited, we do know true Christians would have helped all men, not stepping to the other side of the road to avoid getting touched, they sound like Pharisees and Sadducees, don't they?

Fundamentalist Christianity is American invention and it is one the most extreme religious movement ever invented by man. This movement is extremely dangerous due desire creating Iranian style Christian theocracy and combining elements of single party dictatorship with Christianity. This movement, while Protestant origin coincided with Catholic theocratic parties that became prominent in Europe in the 1920-1940 in states like Croatia and Slovakia. European fundamentalism was condemned as extreme movement after 1945 and pretty much outlawed together with National socialist and fascist parties. Americans lacks self-reflection on the danger of the fundamentalism, but if this movement ever become victorious the outcome would be a national disaster. Some European scholars describe American fundamentalism as evangelical fascism.

Hi Simon, what about all the other Christians who greatly respect homosexuals and the LGBT Community and even worked in San Fransisco at Food Banks, Half-way houses and Housing units? I worked there as a young adult and never passed judgement on homosexual teens and drug addicts. Why are people attacking those who really love everyone instead of focusing on the frauds!

Do you have any idea what it's like to minister to kids living on the street, kids with same sex partners suffering from HIV? I do, these fake Christians who never did a ounce of real service suck, please don't call them Christians and we won't all Mao, Hitler and Stalin atheists!

Christians were minority and often blocking force when it came to deal with HIV epidemics. It was actually the left parties that saw it as a political issue and became most prominent political movement when it comes to issue of HIV, gay rights, and gay marriage.

Hitler was never atheist, he believed in God and Providence. It was only in USA when I encountered idea that he was atheists. Stalin studied to be a priest and his mom until her death (when he already was the most powerful man in USSR) never forgave him to abandon his priesthood. Many communists believed that Stalin was religious, but combined his Orthodox faith with the cult of personality and veneration of Lenin.

I would like to know what gay pride is. What do gay have to be proud of?

No originally so they steal words like 'gay' and marriage'.

They can't think their way out of their problems.

Rather than go to their congressmen to solve their problems, the ones in Obergefell, went to unelected judges through a federal case. It seems that doing things in a personal way is something out of their nature.

What do they have to be proud of?

Rat person, You obviously know nothing about Gay people that you would ask that. They have been hated and discriminated against for centuries. They have been told they are evil, an abomination, unnatural and sinful, all for something about which they had no choice. They have pride because they stood up for themselves and said no more to the haters and the religious bigots. They have pride because it takes makes courage to tell your parents that you are gay, to tell your employer, to tell your church.

I have read accounts here on JWN that broke my heart, people who hated being gay, who fought their nature, who tried to be normal, but who ultimately could not do so no matter how much they prayed, and who lost beloved family and friends because of it. Having gone through that and done the hard work to accept themselves as they are, not how they wished to be, they have pride and rightly so.

As has been explained in two threads to the point of nausea it was the job of those judges to make a decision on a constitutional matter. That is how this nation was founded and structured.

Besides, what makes you think that they would have given a different decision had they been elected?

I don't see this liberal/conservative religious culture war going away in my lifetime.

But as we see in the post by Village Idiot (of Louis Gohmert), the question that fundamentalists can't answer is "who's religion are we gonna follow? Name the denomination that's right for this country and then we'll see if the American public is in favor of it."

We see the Christian right unprepared to meet others on the level of rational argument, but instead they begin by denouncing all argument and then throwing a parade whenever one of their own makes headlines. That's how they operate.

I very much still prefer the old fashioned way - separation of church and state - than have them making our life decisions for us

This bus driver sounds closeted. Oh please don't make me drive in the Gay Pride parade. Oh please don't make me.

I remember brier rabbit in the Disney movie. "Oh please don't throw me in the brier patch. Oh please don't!" Which, or course is exactly where he wanted to go.

It's like the driving is something he wants to do, not imposed upon him. Yet his Christian side is saying no.
