He is a member of the GB. On that basis alone, he is important.
As regards how important he is, given he 1) is actually in Australia at the present time, 2) is an Australian citizen and 3) is one of the current 7 men on the GB who "sign off" policies and procedures within the organization, the man is vitally important to the Royal Commission of Inquiry.
In fact, of all the Australians who have been subpoenaed to appear before the Commission, his appearance will potentially be the defining moment not only for Australian JWs but JWs elsewhere.
May the RC succeed in getting this man to appear.

Since he's a member of the GB he gets to vote on every question of doctrine or procedure in the JW religion.
Then he's a member of three GB committees, writing, teaching and personnel. This specialty would definitely show him to be a person of value to question regarding procedures and the likelihood these may change.
