The JW Pre-Holiday Check List
Well those days are upon us once more.....Pagan Holidays!
In reflection of what I can expect this year in the way of commercialism, the hustle and bustle at the stores, those irritating Xmas songs piped in thru out the offices, stores and streets, and the very worse of personalities due to added stress and worriations during these holidays.......
I thought it a good idea to create a Jehovah's Witnesses checklist of things we must do to deter the Holiday spirit of this World
Here are a few of things on my "things to do" list:
1. Review the reasoning book responses to Holiday greetings and questions like "Why don't you celebrate Xmas?"
2. Review the reasoning book with my bible students on God's view of these holidays. Read scriptures that will reinforce their understanding of these Holidays, like Thanksgiving, Xmas, New Years celebrations. Make sure they especially understand the need to stand firm with strong conviction of these scriptural principals with family and friends.
3. Get my household shopping done early and in surplus so I don't have to be in the department stores too much during the whole month of December.
4. Make sure my Kingdom Songs tapes are in mint condition so I can blast these tapes over the the xmas music in the car & at the office or whereever I can.
5. Make sure my channel changer finger is in good flix condition to flix right off commercials, xmas movies and radio stations that highlight holiday songs. Urrgh!
6. Stay alert! Even after all these years of opposing the devil and drawing closer to Jehovah, I still find that I may catch myself humming holiday songs without out a thought. Start conditioning my mind to Hum the Kingdom songs more often.
7. Make sure my family (not JW) are reminded that I do not participate in these holidays even tho I tell them every year, every year they will surely ask me again. So before they do, I TELL THEM ONE MORE TIME, "No, Aunt XXX, I will not be attending your thanksgiving dinner this year BECAUSE........." (Wouldn't it be nice to have JW postcards to send out like the world send out xmas cards with this message on God's scriptural view on pagan holidays?)
