These are the 5 things that JWs are afraid of that was in an old talk I took note of.

    1. Armageddon. Will you make it through?

    2. Satan and the Demons. They can attack you at night in your bed.

    3. Government persecution. It can make you weak because of the pain.

    4. Apostates.

    5. Immorality. This is the number one reason why people are disfellowshipped.

Guess old number 5 and number 4 got me. It was a good thing. Those are the best.

I am reminded of the three musketeers. They were coming down the street in a childhood dream. The musketeers were going after all the kids. I ran into a neighbor's house to get away. They had boxes hanging from slings around their neck, you know, the kind you see peanut vendors with at ballparks, or cigarette girls in night clubs in the old old movies. They cam into the neighbors house and I tried to sneak out past them, but one grabbed me firmly by the shoulder and pulled me over to look in the box. They were giving away candy. I took a piece and he let me go. I was afraid for nothing. This is the story of my life. I was afraid for nothing. Even the apostates, like the musketeers, were friendly and had something to give me.

wow, that was a very telling dream, swan. it's amazing how fear pervades every aspect of your life when you're a jehovah's witness. i started to say "one of jehovah's witnesses", the way they always taught me . i'm glad i didn't correct myself. ... good lord, the code of conduct goes right down to even the way you speak, like saying "fortunate" rather than "lucky", etc.

that "afraid for nothing" stands out in bas relief for me, because it truly was all for nothing. except for their control over you (editorial you).

p.s. i alwyas thought the musketeers were cool

    Viv,

I'm glad 5 and 4 are working out well for you too.

    Incense,

I had lots of bad dreams as a child. This one was especially scary, and then ended up okay. I don't know why I remembered it other than I was so scared in that dream. It see in hindsight that my mind was trying to really tell me something about always being afraid.

I was always very frightened and scared as a child. I'm sure many of the others here were too. My counselor and I are going over a lot of those fears and trauma that went with it. I used to lie awake at night thinking the demons were watching me and about to climb into bed with me for sex. I used to worry when the lightning came or the wind howled that Jehovah was going to destroy all my friends and maybe me too. I shuddered with fear when we drove past government buildings that the people inside were going to shoot us or put us in a small cell. I used to worry about torture and starving and how I might be the one to give in.

So it is a big relief to find out that it was all nonsense, but the fear and its after effects still linger after all these years.

    Tammy
