AZERI AUTHORITIES TO SUE JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES

A Baku-based Gazet 525 reported that the State Committee for Work with Religious Structures is preparing to sue the Jehovah's Witness religious sect. It quoted the chairman of the committee, Rafiq Aliyev as saying that the sect is accused of violating the law "On religious freedom".

He said the sect holds illegal meetings, takes young children there and involves them in unhealthy religious services, Aliyev said. At the moment, information regarding illegal activities is being gathered. "In a few days we will submit to court documents with that information," Aliyev said. A court verdict has already put an end to the activities of the Love Church sect, Aliyev said. The Jehovah's Witnesses have already applied to the Baku City executive authorities to get a plot of land to build a meeting house, Olaylar news agency reported. More than 150,000 dollars have been set aside to build the new meeting house.
