Maybe this belongs in "tech support", I'm not sure.

Anyway....does anyone know of a good cheap/free download for playing CD's? I refuse to get sucked into another version of Real Player, although I did like some of its features. From the very first version, Real Players have always caused conflicts and lock-ups of my system. It seems jealous of any other media player you have installed.

I would prefer to have access to internet database so that artists and tracks are listed when I play a new CD. Also some flexibility with playback would be nice.

    Suggestions??

    Thanks,

    Wasa

I use Winamp...I don't know about anything else because i've just stuck to winamp and haven't looked or tried anything else. Its simple and easy to use and its not too fiddly...so I like it. Its a free download as far as I know. I also play mp3's on it as well. Good luck.

    wasa:

I use MusicMatch. It's got what you are looking for and catalogs very well. I have over 3,800 songs on my computer and I've been really happy with it.

does a good job burning too.

Winamp for me. It's simple, good sound quality and free. It plays any audio format except realmedia.

I should have been more specific. Does anyone know of a good, cheap/free, STABLE app for CD playback?

So far, I've had to reboot my system several times after dl-ing winamp. I had to manually uninstall it just to get Windows back up.

Sorry, guys and gals, I know it prob'ly works for you, but it crashed big time for me.

    Still Soundless,

    wasa,

WinAmp is not the problem. It's something else. WimAmp is as solid as-a-rock and as stable as that same rock.

Windows Media Player ... free, and chances are you already have it.

Looks up albums that it plays, lets you rip them to disk and stuff and shows funky patterns in time to the music while it plays
