What ever happened to this change of policy? Last thing I knew it was still grounds for DFing someone in medical distress...

They still get the equivalent of DF'ing, it's just different words.

The effect is still the same. The offical policy, as I understand it now, says that if you decide that you will accpet blood then you are expressing your desire not to be a member of the organization and have in effect removed yourself- no df'ing needed.

I think the society is just trying to avoid responsibility.

The witnesses know full well what is and isnt permitted. I think the W.T.S. is just trying to keep things vague to outsiders.

We will say this, and if you do get a transfusion you will be disfellowshipped and or shunned.

Actually, you can get a transfusion once and say you were under pressure and might get away with it.

Otherwise, the BOE will consider it evidence that you have disassociated yourself (indicated that you no longer consider yourself one of Jehovah's Witnesses) and can announce it to the congregation without having to meet with you, saving the elders a great deal of time and trouble.

It's like joining a church or the military.

(I suppose they might try talking to you first.)

Ah, but you can accept basically ALL parts of Blood now, UNLESS you take them at the same time!
