Convention Before Op

My mum today was told that she urgently needs a pacemaker. The doctor said he would push this through as quickly as possible.

My mum was more concerned about it clashing with her convention! She told me she would rather leave the op till after the convention even though the doctor said it was urgent. If she is given a date before the convention she will ask for it to be changed to a later date!

sigh...that has to drive you crazy!

For a lot of the older JW women that is the highlight of their year socially and spiritually and its hard to budge them.

When does the Dr suggest and when is the assembly? The two times may line up ok?

    I hope so.

Yes it does. I wanted to say the assembly isn't important, but obviously as you say, it is to her. It is more important to her than the operation.

She hasn't actually been given the date yet for the operation but whatever it is, if it clashes she will change it. Hopefully it will all work out ok.

The convention is only 3 days. The problem is that scheduling is a bugger and just moving it back 3 days isn't so likely a scenario. SHe is better off telling dr.(or nurse) right now that she needs it to be on/before/after such and such a day if she is going to stubbornly wait til after the convention. My ex had a pacemaker and it doesn't keep you out of total commission for too long. If she gets it beforehand and gets a wheelchair and help, she might be able to manage soon after the surgery. Not ideal, but your mom doesn't seem to be open to practical. Depending on the venue, it might work or not, but we all know that JWs are nutty about conventions. What are you gonna do? Remind her to make sure her will is updated?
