New Light on Field Service Time

    Dear Brothers:

The light keeps flashing and changing getting brighter. Where before time was only acceptable counted in hours, now a publisher can report as little as 15 minutes to reduce our inactive statistics. The minimum required hours for pioneers has also decreased over time as well as it has become harder and harder to get anyone to sign up for this grueling task.

With the end ever closer than it was in 1975, it is even more important that we reach as many people as possible. The current field service arrangement has become grossly inefficient due to the fact that it is time-oriented and not results-oriented. We have recently become aware of the fact that a few brothers and sisters may deliberately walk slowly in the door-to-door work and that some car groups route their return visits in such a way that they spend more time than necessary simply driving to their destinations. That is seriously hurting productivity.

We must remember that the emphasis is not on time spent but on publications sold people reached with the Good News. Therefore effective immediately, there will be a new arrangement for the sales preaching work.

Publishers and pioneers will no longer be required asked to report time spent in sales and recruiting Field Service. Sales Field Service reports slips turned in each month will now instead report the number of people actually contacted in Field Service as well as literature sales magazines and books placed and return visits and literature bible studies.

While there have never been quotas in hours for publishers though publishers have been expected to at least spend ten hours a month selling our literature, there will also be no quotas for minimum numbers of people contacted in Field Service under the new arrangement. However it should reasonably be expected that a publisher who spends at least ten hours a month in the door-to-door work could reasonably reach at least 60 people a month and sell place at least 20 magazines and even 10 books.

The congregation should be informed at the next Service Meeting of this new arrangement. Revised Sales Field Service Report forms will be sent out immediately.

Let's get those numbers up, guys!

    ........

So when do you think we'll see something like this?

Hi Bendrr: Excellent! As funny as your post is, especially with all the strike-thru parts, it is also very possible. The more I thought about what you wrote, the more plausible it sounded ... number of people initially contacted, then visited, and then studied with, then baptized ... it actually makes sense. In business sales, a market plan often deals with initial contacts that lead to appointments, and then closings ... same strategy ... 100 cold calls will often result in 10 appointments that turn into 3 closed sales.

I would not be surprised if some official at Watchtower reads this, and suggests such a policy change ... and the JWs will see it as from their little Jehovah ... and they will never know it was suggested by an ex-JW. fascinating.

Too funny! If this was implemented, half the coffee and donut shops in the US would fold for lack of business; laundromats would suddenly have much less reading material; ordinances restricting evening "sales" (read annoyance) calls would need to be enforced...

Remember the old black-and-white "Quota Boards" that were displayed at the front of the KH? Each month's "performance" was right in the face, and God help us if the averages started to drop!

Remember the little "orange sheets" that were passed out at the Circuit Assemblies on Friday night? (Back when CAs were Fri night-Sun night). That was always fun, getting reamed for any little thing that was below the national average.

Sorta like a colonoscopy, sans tranquilizer.

    Bendrr,

Funny! If and when they do change it won't make any difference. The same dubs who lied about their hours and placements will now start lying about how many people they contacted.

People have their own ways at covering their butts or "getting back" at repression. There is a famous story about Henry Ford upping the daily car quotas beyond what is humanly possible. Then a strange thing started happening. People who were buying their most expensive Lincoln models noticed a horrible smell coming from the cars not long after purchase. This happened in a whole bunch of cases. The disgrunted employees were stuffing the inside of the doors with dead rats on the assembly lines!

I'll bet a bunch of disgruntled Bethelites fantasize about slipping pornograph pictures in books before they get shipped.

If there wasn't such repression, there wouldn't be a problem. There is and there is.

    What a wonderful idea!

Bendrr: wonderful post, both funny and though provoking. It would be interesting to see them switch from an "hourly wage" mentaligy to a "piece work" mentality.

Great job. I got a good laugh and what is funny is just how realistic it is.

This is brilliant for the Tower to implement, in a financial sorta way, as their bottom line would increase HUGELY! To fake good figures with THIS system, Publishers would have to buy lots of books! 10 books a month! Holy crap! That's more than most Publishers place in a YEAR! The Governing Body would do little backflips if they could get their Publishers to buy so many books to fake their figures!

The hourly statistics reported are an innacurate joke, more witnesses are realizing that the statistics shown are not to be taken at face value. The present system of reporting hours encourages an entirely wrong motivation for preaching. Last year when the new arrangement of reporting 15 minute publishers and applying additional pressure to get ones to turn their time in was announced I thought that surely the number of witnesses in the U.S. would easily soar over the 1 million mark. This hasn't happened, if it does happen it will be with difficulty. The present arrangement of counting time isn't working.

pioneer hours now 70 hours.. Since we are sooo close to the end now shoundt the pioneers be doing more then less? ( this arangement was to allow more to enter the pioneer ranks) I dont think it did. why dont those that can only do 70hours just do 70 hours. Do they need the title of pioneer?

Also what I have noticed is existing pioneers that were doing 90 hours are now only putting in 70 hours. It shows they are serving man and not god. If they could do 90hours before why only do 70 now?
